Reporting directly to the President/Chief Operations Officer. As a key member of the executive team, the Controller will set the financial policy and direction while being an active participant in, and driver of, the company's overall business strategy. Controller will lead all financial administration including business planning, budgeting, reporting and analysis. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Controller will work closely with a motivated and engaged executive team including the Ownership group and executive leadership team. 

Salary: $100,000-$150,000 based on experience
Location: Dacono, CO

Specific responsibilities include:


  • Partner with the President/COO on all operational issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to ownership based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.

  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team.

  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with CES's strategic plan.

  • Engage the President/COO & Director of Business Development to align financial management with short and long-term financial planning and projections.

  • Engage the executive team around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.


Financial and Operational Management

  • Work in progress management and analysis, progress billing management and percent complete guidance/analysis. 

  • Oversee budgeting including the implementation of budgets, monitor progress of budget to actual, budget updates and modification, and present operational metrics both internally and externally.

  • Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles through review of supporting schedules prepared by the finance staff, and monitor the efficient use of funds.

  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and CES’s owners; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements and analysis of the results.

  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting initiatives.

  • Coordinate and oversee all financials audit activities.

  • Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for CES employees.

  • Review all formal finance-, HR-, and IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.

  • Study, analyze and report on trends, opportunities for expansion and projection of future company growth.

Team Management

  • Develop and manage direct staff.

  • Engage other members of the senior management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial, IT, and HR solutions positively support CES’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.

  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing key management team members for CES.


The Controller will be a seasoned and assertive leader with at least 7-10 years of broad finance experience, ideally beginning with an audit background, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. Controller must have extensive experience managing finance (accounting, cash flow, budgeting, internal controls, analysis and reporting), in a construction environment.


Experience and Attributes:

  • A minimum of a BS, CPA/CMA preferred.
  • Must have experience in steel industry and/or construction industry
  • Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to ownership.  

  • Prior experience with Viewpoint required.

  • Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, internal controls, and reporting.

  • Skilled in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, HR, and technology policies and procedures.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.

  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning.

  • A hands-on leader with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
