Job Overview:
As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will assume a senior role within the structural engineering team, taking charge of more complex projects and responsibilities. You will be responsible for more technical designs, providing mentorship to new designers and engineers, and actively contributing to project efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
- Provide professional design services and engineering support in response to department needs
- Review the work of other designers and engineers, providing technical guidance and mentoring to ensure successful project delivery
- Conduct regular reviews of projects to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to project schedules & budgets
- Provide input to the development of structures project budgets and schedules to meet requirements
- Participate in project proposal development, attend client meetings, and present technical concepts and solutions
- Manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to project schedules and budgets
- Lead the design and analysis of both small and complex structures, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and industry best practices
- Prepare & review detailed engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications for critical project components
- Provide a proven track record of successful project performance, specifically on large-scale projects
- Maintain billability percentage set by supervisor/leadership
- Weekly timesheet completion (with appropriate notes/codes)
- Support internal departments with structures design services required to execute projects
- Contribute to the overall success of company by supporting internal departments, providing exemplary service to clients, and striving to meet on-going initiatives to grow and develop the company
Non-Essential Duties:
- Assist with design work for other departments
- Participate in professional engineering society conferences
- Contribute and serve on an engineering committee and/or subcommittee
- Participate in research and development opportunities and projects
- Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and/or inter-departmental relations
System or Specialized Knowledge:
To perform this job successfully, an individual might have knowledge of:
- PennDOT – Programs/Systems, Design Manuals, and Publications
- WVDOH and ODOT – Standards, Manuals, Design Directives, and Publications (optional)
- MicroStation (preferred, not required) and AutoCAD (optional)
- Deltek Ajera
- Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Computers, Printers, and Electronics
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in the engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- BA or BS Degree required in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in PA (WV, OH, and/or MD are a plus) or the ability to obtain it within six months is required
