Overview: 
Our client, located in Plano, TX, is looking for a Controller to join their team. As the head of the corporate controllership function at a specialty surgical hospital, you'll be fully accountable for corporate accounting, consolidations, technical accounting, fixed assets, revenue recognition, procure-to-pay, and payroll. You’ll also collaborate closely with the company's external auditors and provide support to key departments such as FP'A, HR, Compliance, IT, Legal, and others.

 MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Monthly Close Management: Oversee the monthly close calendar, ensuring timely

completion of general accounting functions and internal/external reporting.

  • Account Reconciliations: Perform GL account reconciliations and analyze various balance sheet and income statement accounts monthly.
  • Budget Preparation: Manage the annual budget preparation process.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements for all entities.
  • Quarterly Reporting: Assist the CFO in preparing quarterly reports for the bank group, including financial statements and covenant calculations.
  • Revenue Cycle Management: Work directly with the Revenue Cycle Management company to review billings, collections, accounts receivable, and DSO trends.
  • Accounts Payable Management: Oversee accounts payable, vendors, leases, and cash flow needs.
  • Revenue Recognition: Manage revenue recognition processes, including historical collection analysis, cash flows, and bad debt reserve estimates.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Support merger and acquisition activities and joint venture formation accounting and analysis.
  • Executive Advisory: Advise executive management on the financial implications of various decisions.
  • Staff Leadership: Direct and lead accounting staff in developing and implementing company-wide accounting policies and controls in line with US GAAP.
  • External Audit Coordination: Serve as the main liaison with external auditors to ensure smooth annual financial statement compliance.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure corporate income tax compliance by coordinating with third-party preparers.
  • Insurance Management: Complete annual insurance applications and audits for corporate and all entities.
  • Compensation Calculation: Work with HR and executive management to calculate quarterly and annual bonuses.
  • Payroll and Benefits Administration: Oversee the PEO for payroll and employee benefits administration, including related banking and treasury functions.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills Needed:

  • Project Management: Proven project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Effective Listening: Strong listening skills and ability to solicit ideas for optimal solutions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  
  • Healthcare Insurance Experience: Experience with healthcare insurance payers.
  • Analytical and Organizational Skills: Excellent analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Supervisory Experience: Prior experience in supervising staff.
  • Pressure Management: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Process Improvement: Experience in implementing improved processes and technology utilization.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA required.
  • Experience: 10+ years of accounting decision-making experience, including financial statement preparation, payroll supervision, and accounts receivable supervision.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to meet all physical demands of the role.
